Laundry, Blech!

Yesterday Garrett and I ordered a new washer and dryer.  This is apparently the month-o-spending.  I suppose this is what happens when you move far away and you don't want to take unreliable appliances and vehicles with you.  Garrett researched and found the highest rated washers and dryers, and we went from there.  We found the appliances at Home Depot online; Garrett also did some amazing detective work, and found a discount code that gave us a nice, large discount on our purchase.  (He tried over 20 codes, and one just happened to work.  As him about it; he loves telling the story of his triumph.)  Here are our new appliances (found via Google, not the exact ones that will be in our house).

Our current washer and dryer are ones that we bought last minute from some guy in the newspaper.  Together they were around $100, if that gives you any indication on their quality.  Don't get me wrong, the washer and dryer have given us three fairly decent years of service, but it's time to move on.  I would try to sell them, except I wouldn't wish my washer on anyone.  It's one of those situations where you have to put the knob in a certain unnatural position and DON'T TOUCH IT so that the water will run cold.  Yes, I have been washing my clothes in burning hot water for at least the last year--I'm not sure when the cold function stopped working.  I only noticed this error when Brittney moved in and she didn't like all of her clothes fading and shrinking.  What does this say about the clothes I wear?  I never noticed...oh well.

Yesterday I was super excited about our nice new appliances that will be delivered next week, but then I thought to myself, "Why am I excited about a washer and dryer?"  So a correction: I am super excited about having shiny, new, lovely appliances sitting in my beautiful house (soon to be apartment).  I could care less that those appliances are a washer and dryer.  Why? you ask.  Well, because I hate to do laundry.  The act of putting the clothes in the washer isn't the problem.  I even don't mind, as much, transferring them to the dryer (unless some don't go in the dryer, agh), but after that, I'm done.  I HATE dealing with the clothes once they are finished in the dryer.  I'm not sure when my deep hatred began or where it came from, but it's there.

If I were to be honest with you all, I will confess that it is not beyond me to leave my clean clothes sitting in the dryer for weeks.  Don't judge me.  I would rather to do laundry than mow the lawn (another story for another time), but if I can put off folding those clothes, I will.  I have some days that I become Mrs. Susie Homemaker, and I do loads of clothes, take them out AND fold them; maybe I'll put them away, maybe not (let's no get carried away).  I feel so accomplished those days.

(Interesting that my Susie Homemaker alter ego is associated with me only doing laundry, I don't even have to clean!  When I clean and do laundry, I'm Super Homemaker Woman Extraordinaire.  There's no name if I clean, do laundry, and cook.....I guess, Mrs. Tired-Now Let's Go To Starbucks for a Frappuccino.

  1. I am so with you on the laundry! I hate dealing with the clothes once they are clean...why hang or fold them when you can just as easily pull it out of the dryer?
